ESD Work Check:
A simple, portable indicator that is a 'one-touch' method of checking to see if an operator has continuity, e.g. to the conductive / dissipative work-surface via:
- A wrist strap
- ''ESD'' Footwear, albeit Foot-Straps or Shoes / Boots
It is also a useful tool that can also be used to obtain an indication of whether a material is ''groundable''.
- < 1 x 109 Ω +/- 10% = Green Light / Pass
- > 1 x 109 Ω +/- 10% = Red Light / Call Engineer = to have the system checked out
Important Note: The maximum upper limit for the dissipative mat / work surface to ground is 1 x 109 Ω.
Some possible reasons for a Red Light could be:
• A dirty mat / work surface
• Out of spec' mat / work surface
• Cable(s) disconnected
• Non-ESD footwear
It takes a couple seconds to see if there's continuity ... here's an example:
> from the operator's finger on the WCK-01
> through the bench mat
> through the mat grounding cord
> through the earth facility connection
> back through the bonding bracket
> throught the coil cord & wrist strap
> back to the operator
Quick, easy & fully portable, running on a 9V battery, it's suitable for use at:
• Permenant workstation set-up
• Temporary workstation set-up
• Field Service Kits
