Static Control Flooring
Static Control Flooring Material Suppliers Available in Australia & New Zealand
Static Control Flooring, albeit vinyl sheet, tiles, carpet or epoxy resin, is a critical part of any EPA (ESD Protected Area) or hazardous area at risk of fire or explosion, when mobility of personnel and/or equipment is required.
Here is an approximation of the 3 types of Static Control Flooring:
- Low Charging / Antistatic Floors - typically referenced by a <2kV or other HBM (Human Body Model) Voltage generation value caused through the triboelectric effect of walking across the floor. Bearing in mind that people can start to feel the pin-prick of an ESD from around 3kV, the <2kV limit prevents us from receiving the uncomforatble belt of static.
- Conductive Floors - typically referenced by a less than 1MOhm / 1 x 106Ω resistance range.
- Dissipative Floors - typically referenced by a 1MOhm / 1 x 106Ω up to 1GOhm / 1 x 109Ω reference range.
Conductive and Dissipative materials are "Groundable", that is to say that they are designed to allow the free flow of electrons, and therefore common point grounding / equi-potential bonding is possible. Conductive materials are typically not as reliant on humidity as dissipative materials, and also tend to offer more reliable grounding properties.
Antistatic / Low Charging materials offer no guarentee of grounding and are often reliant on levels of RH (Relative Humidity).
Do you need to find out if your static control floor is doing what it should?
For all static control floors, we offer Electrical Resistance-to-Ground (RG) Testing and Walk-Test for HBM (human body model) Voltage to meet IEC61340-5-1 and ANSI/ESD S20.20, should you be interested in this service, please contact us to discuss your requirements. Standards vary around the world, within different industries and Companies, so it is important to understand which material and properties you require.
IMPORTANT NOTE: To best benefit from having a conductive / dissipative floor, personnel require suitable groundable footwear, and equipment, e.g. "ESD" trolleys and chairs, should be grounded via conductive wheels.
